Concept design

This represents a new approach to Brisbane suburban living, providing shelter from Brisbane sub-tropical weather while maximising views from as many rooms as possible towards Brisbane city views and leafy street landscape.

The house is arranged around a central courtyard, which not only allows light to flow deep into the floor plan but also offers glimpses of the city views through the transparent living space. This outdoor courtyard,d centred around a living space, provides a welcome respite from the wind. Privacy from the street is achieved by a series of layered walls and landscaping, yet the entry gate porch creates a sense of warmth and luxury. The entry leads to the entry porch floating stepping-stone bridge over the reflective pond. The double volume entry lobby with curved gallery walls and grand spiral staircase is bridged with the main double volume living space by a passageway that explores the entire garden pavilion feel created within.

The ground floor consists of a series of entertaining living spaces, such as a cocktail bar, wine room, kitchen, butler’s pantry, and amenity areas, and two guest suites. The rear of the home is made of entirely retractable glass, providing a seamless connection to the terrace, garden, and infinity pool which reflects the city skyline beyond. A light-filled grand spiral staircase dropping to the lower floor opens onto the sloping lower ground plane. which separates the garage from the rest of the property. This level contains a large garage space and a family/ entertaining area with a media room, cellar and additional storage space. The spiral staircase at the entry, also stepping up to the first level, is a series of private areas for the occupants of the house. This level has a three-bedroom suite,s including the master. Large double volumes and the courtyard with bridge connections create a visual vertical connection with all public activity spaces on the ground level.

The main materials in the house are Venetian plaster walls marble-look tile flooring, wood finishes, and limestone with metal accents and a relaxing ambience is achieved throughout the use of warm, soft beach tones. Nautical-themed art pieces complete the aesthetic. Extensive use of glass is balanced by light materials and heavy materials. With connections to the outdoors from every space, this home blends seamlessly into its environment while providing protection from the elements through careful design
